Justice, in Its Own Time

Years ago, a man walked into my office carrying a file of legal documents and a quiet kind of sorrow. He was in the middle of a probate dispute, and frankly, it wasn’t going well. I reviewed the file, gave my best advice, and laid out our options. He nodded politely… and did nothing.

Weeks passed. Then months. I assumed he’d moved on.

But nearly a year later, he returned — same folder, same steady look. Only this time, he was ready. He said, “I needed to let the storm pass before I could fight the right way.”

That moment stuck with me.

In law, we often act urgently. Deadlines. Hearings. Strategy. But in life — the deeper things, the painful things — we sometimes need to let the dust settle before we can see clearly.

That client didn’t need a fighter. He needed someone who could wait with him until he was ready.

I never forgot it.

Sometimes justice comes on a timeline that isn’t ours. And that’s okay.
